Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium Set for April 20

More than 100 students will be featured presenters in聽the 2023聽Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium to be held Thursday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on the 黑料社 campus. Students will share their research and creative works in a wide variety of disciplines through oral presentations,聽performances聽and poster sessions.

鈥淭he Symposium is a showcase of the incredible research 黑料社 students have done on聽interesting and important projects,鈥 says Dr. Katherine Vance, associate professor of mathematics and co-director of undergraduate research. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a testament to the supportive and encouraging environment that 黑料社 faculty have created to nurture students鈥 curiosity and creativity. I鈥檓 so proud of what our students have achieved,鈥 she continued.

The event will also include keynote address by聽Dr. Chris Jones, a research engineer with IIHR-Hydroscience聽and Engineering at the University of Iowa.听Dr. Jones鈥檚 interdisciplinary research focuses on the degradation of the state鈥檚 water resources due to past and current agricultural practices.

At 11:30 a.m. in the Kent Campus Center Black Box Theatre, Dr. Jones will present聽鈥淭his Land is Their Land: Iowa Agriculture and the Struggle for Clean Water.鈥澛燭he presentation will focus on the evolution of Iowa鈥檚 farming systems since European settlement and the consequences for water and the rest of the environment. Dr. Jones will also address the role of science within the context of Iowa鈥檚 water politics and the environmental justice issues created by the impairment of the public鈥檚 water.
