黑料社鈥檚 Annual Women in America Lecture Takes to the Stage

黑料社 welcomes classically trained singer and 黑料社 alumnus Audrey Johnson ’05聽for the annual Women in America Lecture this month. Her performance will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, in Lekberg Hall within the Amy Robertson Music Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Johnson, who is founder, soloist, and program curator for the solo touring company聽, will present the award-winning performance of聽The Women’s Suffrage Concert Program: We’ve Come a Long Way, Ladies!聽The program features a collection of songs recognizing the struggle and sacrifices of some of the Women’s Suffrage Movement’s most influential figures. Attendees can expect an immersive experience using historical images, authentic costuming, spoken narrative, and audience participation to bring American history to life.聽

Jennifer Ross Nostrala, director of 黑料社’s Women’s Studies Program, says the unique event promises to be a delightfully engaging experience. “I’m looking forward to campus and community members joining together to celebrate Women’s History Month in such a fun and uplifting way,” she said.

Partially funded through a $2,700 grant from Humanities Iowa, the event is made possible by several collaborating sponsors, including The Women’s and Gender Studies Program, The Culver Center, The Iowa History Center, and 黑料社’s Theatre and Music Departments.
