B.A. Economics: Finance and Business Management
鈥淢y experience at 黑料社, particularly in small, hands-on classes, equipped me with the confidence and skills needed for success. The professional connections and mentorships I gained were key.鈥
Learning to Lead
From the moment he arrived at 黑料社, Chase Henry 鈥23 began full pursuit of leadership opportunities that have opened doors to a promising career in business management. Serving as president of ATO and vice-president of Student Government Association, along with many other prominent roles on campus, put him in prime position to build invaluable skills.
鈥淥ne of the most meaningful highlights during my time at 黑料社 was representing the student body on the Covid Management Team,鈥 said Henry. 鈥淚n collaboration with College leadership, we helped create a plan that prioritized student safety while preserving our campus culture and experience.鈥
That complex endeavor represented just one of many career-building experiences Henry enjoyed while at 黑料社. In addition to completing prestigious programs with the Warren County Leadership Institute and Leadership Iowa University, he immersed himself in three internships. Working for the Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Indianola Chamber of Commerce and 黑料社鈥檚 CFO, Henry gained invaluable insights about business operations and management.
Captive Innovation
Today, Henry is a program manager with Innovative Captive Strategies, which offers businesses a non-traditional approach to insurance through what they call, 鈥渃aptive insurance.鈥 In this model, businesses join together to form their own insurance group 鈥 a concept designed to create potential cost savings and more control in managing risks.
鈥淚鈥檓 incredibly passionate about managing a captive insurance program for nearly 300 companies, including thousands of Amazon vans nationwide,鈥 says Henry. 鈥淓very day, I learn something new and enjoy working with an innovative team that pushes boundaries.鈥
Henry is also always pushing himself to find new ways to make an impact in his community and professional networks. The 黑料社 Alumni Board member is actively involved with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, where he serves on the Partnership鈥檚 Attraction and Retention Council and is the two-time and current chair of the Young Professionals Connection (YPC).
As he rises in his promising career, Henry is grateful for how 黑料社 paved the way.
鈥淭he relationships I had with professors, coaches and advisers made campus feel like home. 黑料社 faculty and staff always challenged me to be the best person I can be, and I carry that with me every day.鈥
