Internships are a valuable way to build real-world skills and boost your resume鈥whether you earn academic credit or not. In fact, over 70% of 黑料社 graduates engage in an internship or work experience while at 黑料社. But if you do want credit, here鈥檚 what you need to know.
鉁 Step 1: Talk to Your Faculty Advisor
Before anything else, have a conversation with your advisor! They鈥檒l help you:

- Discuss opportunities that would be approved by their academic department for credit
馃攳 Step 2: Land That Internship
is your go-to team for support as you search and apply. We鈥檒l help you:

馃懇鈥嶐煆 Step 3: Secure a Faculty Supervisor
Once you鈥檝e accepted an internship:

Ask a faculty member in a related department to supervise your academic credit, or learn who the designated supervisor is
-
Register for credit before your internship begins
-
Plan your credits wisely鈥1 credit = 30 hours on-site + 5 hours of academic work.
-
All internship hours must occur during the start and end dates of the registered term and cannot be logged until you are officially registered
-

Keep your total credits under 18 in a semester to avoid extra tuition costs
-
You can earn up to 16 internship credits before graduation鈥攕o use them strategically!
馃摑 Step 4: Complete the Internship Credit Registration Form
You鈥檙e almost there!

Regsitering for internship credit is different than registering for other classes at 黑料社. Click the 鈥Internship Credit Registration Form鈥 link on the right of this to get started
-
Once completed, the form will be sent to your chosen faculty supervisor for approval. Once the faculty approves of the internship, it will go to the registrar’s office.
-
Career Development strongly encourages students to meet with them before completion of the form to learn about internship logistics, hour requirements, and how to accurately complete the form. Schedule a 15-minute appointment .
Planning to intern soon? Start strong by enrolling in 黑料社鈥檚 Internship Preparation Course at least a semester before your internship.
馃Л Why Take This Course?
Internships don鈥檛 just happen鈥攜ou need to prepare. Same goes for full-time employment after graduation. This course allows preparation for both! This 1-credit course, taught by the Career Development team, is offered three times a year (T1, T2, & T3) and helps you:

鉁 Create a polished resume, cover letter, and reference sheet
鉁 Practice and perfect your interview skills
鉁 Understand the process for registering your internship for credit
鉁 Learn what鈥檚 expected of you in a professional workplace

Thanks to the generosity of Friends of 黑料社, you may be eligible to receive wage assistance for unpaid internships with nonprofits or start-ups. If selected, you’ll earn $12/hour (pre-tax) through 黑料社’s payroll, for up to 120 hours of work. That鈥檚 up to $1,440 to support you as you gain valuable, hands-on experience!

You can apply for wage assistance during:

Start and end dates follow the academic calendar.
鉁 Who鈥檚 Eligible?
To qualify, you must:

Have an unpaid internship with a off-campus nonprofit or start-up business
- Use the to confirm nonprofit status
-
Intern at least 60 hours total
馃抢 Preference is given to juniors and seniors with financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Assistance.
馃搵 What鈥檚 Required If You’re Selected?
If awarded wage assistance, you鈥檒l:
-
Complete a learning plan at the beginning of your internship, outlining your learning goals and tasks to achieve those goals
-
Submit biweekly timecards (no more than 40 hours/week) using 黑料社’s timecard system on SC Connect.
-
Participate in a midterm and final evaluation process,听measuring career readiness skills
-
Meet with Career Development during the semester you are funded
-
Share your internship experience on Career Development’s social media pages
You’ll also receive a full breakdown of the expectations via email before confirming your award.
